Creature Sanctuary

The sun is bright and cheery on your shoulders, and you smile and inhale the fresh, crisp air. The little drake is delighted with the open space and the sudden breeze, and takes to flight above your head. The trees fall back, leaving a huge, open field of tall grasses and wildflowers with lines criss-crossing through it where animals have wandered through. You decide not to leave your mark on this lovely place and follow an already beaten path toward the center of the field.

The wind picks up a little more as you trek on, and you watch delightedly as the field of grass becomes an ocean of green ripples and waves, being pushed here and there by the playful breeze. "It's so nice here," the drake calls down to you as it swoops and chitters in the air. "I especially like the guardian! She's ahead there, look!" he yells and flies ahead to show the way. Standing in a small circle of stomped down grass is a sweet-looking deer guardian with gentle eyes. "Her name is Satira and she's very nice! She brings me apples from the orchard and lets me sit on her shoulder, just like you!"

You stand next to the pretty guardian and look all across the field, hoping to see some creatures wandering through the grass. "It's no use," the drake says to you. "The grass is too high to see much of anything. But I know a couple of them if you want me to introduce you!" You nod in agreement and watch as he flies off toward one end of the field. As he returns, you see that the grass under his is moving, and you realize that there must be a creature in it following him. As the drake lands back on your shoulder, two creatures pop out of the grass and into the small circle. "These are my friends! The first one is a Flutra. They're very playful creatures who love to fly through the air and play jokes on unsuspecting people! But don't worry. He won't do anything with the guardian here."

"And this," he continues, "Is a Fluxaro! They've really swift runners and they love to race each other in the summertime. They're hard to catch, but when you do, they'll kick and scratch you with their back feet!"

Just as you're about to reply to Selakity, the earth begins to tremble. Out from the forest runs a group of huge creatures, two feet taller than you are, with sharp horns and, you think, sharper teeth. They beat down the grass as they speed across the field, and you wonder what such huge creatures could be doing in a place like this. Hunting, you think. But before you can ask the guardian if you'll be safe, the group stops at the far end of the field and calmly begin munching on the wild flowers. "Those are Raptors," whispers the drake. "They might look big and mean, but a lot of the time, they just eat flowers and wild berries. If you own a far, though, they're not the pet for you! They love chickens!"

Relieved that you're safe in this place, you turn to say good bye to the pretty deer guardian, only to find her petting and feeding apples to a lovely chestnut colored Digeral. Selakity looks slightly jealous of the creature who is taking his place, and you hold back a giggle as you turn and leave the way you came in.
