Creature Sanctuary

A little surprised, you follow the drake as he leads you back into the old forest. You've already been this way, you think to yourself, but decide not to mention this to him. You wave to the guardian you met earlier as Selakity continues forward, never looking back as he swoops and dives around low branches and hanging vines. Finally, you think you understand why he brought you this way. Ahead, through the thick cloud of leaves and branches, you can just see beams of sunshine breaking through the canopy and shining onto the forest floor. "I bet you thought I was crazy!" he says over his shoulder. You agree with a laugh.

As you draw nearer, the loveliest song can be heard echoing off of the tree trunks, making the tune sound even more mysterious and beautiful. You push forward, hoping to soon find out who is playing such a wonderful melody, and why they would be so far back into the woods. With one last push of leaves, you finally break free of the forest and stumble into a sunny clearing speckled with white and pink flowers and a handful of wild berries. Sitting near the middle of the lovely area is a delicate looking winged elf strumming a beautiful lute. When she sees you, she stops and smiles sweetly. "Her name is Angel. No one knows where she came from, but she does a very good job of guarding the creatures that live in the clearing," says Selakity into your ear.

You sigh and stop to enjoy the sun on your back. This little clearing seems so peaceful to you, and you want to soak up every minute of it. When you open your up your eyes again, you see at your feet a gathering of small and strange looking creatures. You eye them curiously, and as you watch, they beging to jump and play like happy little kittens, and you can't help laughing at how cute they are. "Those are Meleeps," the drake says, answering your unspoken question. "They're strange creatures! They're animals, but a lot of them have the markings of fruits or flowers! Maybe it's so they blend in, but if you ask me, I wouldn't want to look like a tasty berry when some strange traveler wanders by!"

To you surprise, a larger group of creatures suddenly joins the little Meleeps in their playful game of jumping and romping. You wonder to yourself how such large critters could keep from harming such little ones. "Oh, look! Those are hoppers. They're a little like rabbits, but they're much more playful! They really get along with the Meleeps, too!"

Slowly and carefully, a band of brightly colored creatures hop out of the underbrush of the forest and into the bright and cheerful clearing. They stop close to the guardian who smiles at them assuringly, and all but the green and purple leader stoops to nibble at the berries scattering the ground. The little grey drake takes a seat on your shoulder finally and whispers into your ear, "That's a clan of Dungeroos. They're very shy and very ellusive, but they will cast magic if they feel like someone's going to hurt them. I like them because they have such bright and pretty colors."

Strutting out into the sun comes a very arrogant Digeral, showing off its bright, melon-colored hide in the sun. You snicker to yourself and go back the way you came.
